Job Description
As a Sourcing Category Manager for Marketing, HR and Professional Services, you will partner closely with stakeholders to help shape and implement category strategies. The Marketing Team is responsible for developing and driving holistic category strategies, managing stakeholder relationships, and bringing excellence to Etsy-wide sourcing, supplier, and agreement management. You will execute on all aspects of Category Management, Strategic Sourcing, and Supplier Relationship Management for agency, production, MarTech, affiliates, advertising, and support other categories (HR and Professional services as needed) across Etsy’s house of brands. You will be responsible for evaluating the industry space, partner engagement, supplier evaluation and selection, negotiations, supplier management, reporting and analysis. You will report out progress to Marketing, Finance, and Legal leadership on a regular basis on the strategy, progress and transaction specific recommendations.
This role is a leave coverage for the Director of Sourcing and Category Management reporting to the Senior Director of Strategic Sourcing and Category Management. This position is open to remote candidates but the team typically works Eastern time and the candidate should be ready to have cameras on for virtual meetings. There will be travel to the Brooklyn office to meet with stakeholders a few times within the year.
About the Role
In this role you will:
- Co-lead sourcing initiatives across various stages of the category lifecycle in alignment with stakeholder business objectives and acting as the focal point in driving various strategic sourcing initiatives forward.
- Contribute to the compliance tracking of category specific policies, performance metrics, risk mitigation plans and analysis of market trends and leading practices.
- Work with senior leaders from across Etsy Inc. to understand their strategies and influence the role suppliers play in achieving them.
- Execute multi-year global category plans and transformational strategies across Marketing, HR and Professional Services categories, including defining buying channels, supply base profiles, purchasing policies, strategic relationship management programs, and more
- Understand and utilize should-cost and total cost of ownership models for the category and ensure alignment of category plans and strategies to business priorities and functional goals
- Act as the primary business partner and establish/foster partnership with budget owners, product areas, functional stakeholders, and strategic suppliers, driving continuous performance improvements
- Project manage and support multiple cross-functional teams in the execution of transformational category initiatives to ensure delivery of maximum value across the procurement process
- Provide category sourcing and procurement guidance to your business partners. Introduce strategies for competitive sourcing processes, standardization, supplier consolidation, and changes in S2P channel strategies.
- Work with senior leaders from across Etsy Inc. to understand their strategies and influence the role suppliers play in achieving them.
- Perform market, usage, and spend analysis for assigned categories. Stay on top of industry and market trends to provide partners with new intelligence and subject matter expertise.
- Ensure category performance by regularly reporting results and maintaining important metrics.
- Generate and provide relevant reports, updates, and engagement specific recommendations / transactions to leadership to guide decision making.
- Using RFX processes as appropriate, gather requirements, conduct research, evaluate and select suppliers in close collaboration with business partners. Facilitate approval by providing budget, cost projections, and project time frame to internal partners.
- Support Marketing business partners to ensure adherence to internal purchasing and contracting processes (Compliance, Legal, Finance, Accounting, InfoSec, Tax, etc) for each transaction. Achieve beneficial contract terms and ensure Etsy receives the best value while having a solution-orientation approach.
- Together with the Marketing team, maintain a close working relationship with key supply partners.
- Monitor category and supplier performance, facilitate supplier business reviews and regularly report results on category metrics.
- Engage with suppliers to achieve continuous improvement, financial benefit, risk mitigation, and social and environmental impact objectives.
About You
Ideally you'll bring:
- 5-7 years of Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Supplier Performance Measurement, Contract Negotiation, Project Management, Category Management, Business Analysis experience
- Strong background in assigned categories, specifically sourcing and procuring high value/sophisticated products and services
- Deep knowledge of category landscape and trends
- Success leading project teams to bring value by applying sourcing methods
- Ability to analyze category spend and translate into insights and recommendations to develop an opportunity pipeline
- Experience organizing and reporting on marketing data, and use of S2P or function specific systems
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial modeling.
- Keen attention to detail in a fast paced environment supporting multiple locations and projects simultaneously
