Director, Data Management 

 

The Director of Data Management is the overall accountable for USRC Data Organization, including Data Consumption, Data Storage, Data Administration, Data Exposure. Is responsible for implementing processes and procedures to maintain data quality, such as data validation and quality control ensuring it meets security standards and best practices in administration, along with functional, performance, and meeting availability goals for every solution provided by the Data Team.

 

The Director is responsible for the success of the team supporting, mentoring, and coaching them to ensure they are successful in their roles and perform at their best, while ensuring they are following USRC vision, values, objectives. This position will have primary responsibility for monitoring existing solutions and evolve/modernize those driven by business needs and technology strategy.

 

We are looking for an experienced leader with proven track record in maintaining and modernizing legacy solutions, that is a good cultural fit for our organization. Must have great communication skills, experience in building & maintaining an effective and efficient working relationship communication with vendor partners, peers, business stakeholders and executive leaders, including among others timely escalations, status reports of projects or initiatives, be able to communicate team outcomes and key performance indicators (KPI) to business partners and executives.

 

Supporting both solutions and employees while ensuring that USRC standards and principles are being applied to all database objects is key in this role. This position will also review existing databases, process and solutions and provide recommendations to improve current database capabilities and performance,removing technical debt in an agile and continuous manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and tasks may be assigned.

 

  • Defines and/or evaluates competing strategies for implementing new data management

  • practices, new standards, new solutions or feature upgrades and selects the most appropriate.

  • Manages direct reports and third-party contract resources.

  • Reports to Executive leadership the team accomplishments, status updates, KPI, risk & mitigation actions.

  • Engages in continuous evaluation of challenges and weaknesses in current/legacy solutions and recommends agile solutions (driven by internal projects or opportunities on new business driven projects).

  • Provides leadership, support, coaching and empowerment to the Architecture, DBA,

Development and Support team members.

  • Engages in employee recruitment and retention as well as contractors’ selection/on-boarding.

  • Monitors employee performance to ensure they are aligned with stated job requirements.

  • Client-facing role interacting directly with customers in person or through phone conversations and or online messages. Must provide excellent service to both internal and external customers and coach and monitor the team to do the same.

  • Perform in a lead capacity by setting a strong example and mentoring the team.

  • Work across all USRC business units and within IT to ensure that project and production

objectives and timelines are met successfully.

  • Uphold values, principles and goals of corporation by leading staff in team concepts and

promoting a team effort.

  • Maintain effective personnel management and employee relations, including evaluating the performance of all personnel; approving and submitting all hours worked and counseling and disciplining employees.

  • Responsible for the development and management of Enterprise Data Warehouse / Data Lake processes and policies, following strategic direction on best practices for holistic Data Architecture.

  • Enable the team to Design, develop, and implement MS SQL Server SSIS ETL jobs to effectively process high-volume data sources and meet nightly processing windows.

  • Conduct analysis and design of data models for the development and maintenance of existing enterprise systems.

  • Monitors industry trends and directions and develops and presents substantive technical

  • recommendations to senior management.

  • Ability to communicate data modeling and process flow concepts, while tailoring solutions to business requirements

  • Ability to interpret business logic and develop appropriate dataflows and data dependencies

  • Ability to work with and communicate with a team of Developers/Analysts and non-technical Business Stakeholders

  • Design databases and ensure stability, reliability, and performance.

  • Develop, test, and maintain Microsoft SQL database objects for USRC software.

  • Refactor existing database objects to support enhancements of system control, diagnostic and other research subject areas.

  • Prepare documentations for database applications and ETL processing.

  • Learn new applicable programming techniques as needed.

  • Work with other database personnel, front end programmers and customer support as needed.

  • Be available, as needed, should critical software issues arise.

  • Write documentation and SOPs for future use.

  • Actively promote GUEST customer service standards; develop effective relationships at all levels of the organization.

  • Participate in team concepts and promote a team effort; perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

 

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent skills work experience.

  • Ten (10) years in people management positions.

  • Ten (10) plus years of hands-on SQL Relational modeling and database development experience.

  • Five (5) plus years of experience working in Microsoft SQL DDL, DML and concepts (table, triggers, views, procedures, functions, packages).

  • Experience with database version control through Microsoft Visual SourceSafe or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated technical excellence working to support scientific user base to engage in problem solving and finding proactive solutions.

  • Proven track record of leading database transformation and development project through to successful implementation.

  • Significant Microsoft SQL database test development and performance tuning experience.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical writing, documenting solutions, and communicating with clients and users.

 

 This role is to be filled outside the state of Colorado.
