Platform (Windows) Support Engineer  

A combined platform delivery and operations role where you will have responsibility for identifying and resolving second line support issues, maintaining the production corporate environment and assisting with project delivery tasks. Also, responsible for following established guidelines and processes. Individuals are expected to contribute to work flow or process change and to have a strong understanding of the Business and IT function.
  • A delivery and operations role where the split between delivery and operational responsibility will be 50/50
  • Be aware of the IT organisations strategic aims, policies, processes and procedures
  • Ensure Incidents and Service Requests are dealt with to an excellent standard and with customer service in mind
  • Actively work with appropriate teams in IT to pre-empt service issues and minimise the impact of service issues to the Business
  • To keep up-to-date with developments within the organisation that may have an impact on the user experience
  • Will be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure
  • Will participate in and drive technical research and development to enable innovation within the infrastructure as part of continual service improvement
  • Ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards and values
  • Will assist project teams with technical delivery in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operational staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions
  • Accountable for Linux and Windows systems that support the corporate infrastructure
  • Responsibility on these systems to include engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance, research and development to ensure continual innovation
  • The systems that this person will be supporting include:  Windows Servers, Active Directory, MS Exchange 2010, VMware, MS O365, Citrix
  • Power Shell scripting a nice to have


Person Specification:

  • Engineering and delivery of solutions for various project and operational needs
  • Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Install, configure and systems and applications that fall under responsibility of Platform Team
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks 
  • Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
  • Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
  • Provide Tier III/other support
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures 
  • Coordinate and communicate with impacted stakeholders and customers
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
  • Configure / add new services as necessary
  • Upgrade and configure systems and applications that fall under responsibility of Platform Team, either for project or operational needs
  • Maintain operational, configuration, runbook or other procedures
  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
  • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment



Systems Administration/System Engineer certification in Linux and Microsoft.

Must be able to demonstrate competency and exposure to:
  • Active Directory, authentication and access management
  • Messaging Infrastructure – MS Exchange & Skype for Business, on-premise & on-line
  • Mobile Device Management – Good, Blackberry Work, etc

  • 3-6 years’ experience within a Systems Administration\Systems Engineering role, required
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a Delivery environment, preferably within the Private Sector, a plus
  • Good experience of using best practice IT Service Management tools to log and manage user calls and provide first time resolution where practical. Experience of Service Now is preferred
  • Proven track record of solving issues methodically and driving them to resolution
  • Candidate must have experience in owning small project deliverables and ability to deliver on the requirements
