Senior Database Engineer/DBA - Oracle

About the Role

As a Senior Database Engineer at Guardian Life, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:

• Designing and constructing database systems for both data center and cloud environments.
• Automating database processes to enhance efficiency and minimize errors.
• Providing operational support for our database systems.
• Troubleshooting and resolving database issues to ensure optimal performance.
• Participating in cloud migration projects and other key initiatives, such as application modernization or capacity planning.
• Collaborating with other IT professionals to achieve business goals.

Qualifications

• Over 10 years of experience as an Oracle DBA.
• Experience with Oracle RDBMS versions 19c - 23c.
• Demonstrated ability to configure and manage Active Dataguard, Physical Standby, and Snapshot Standby environments.
• Experience with Oracle Unified Directory (OUD) authentication and integration with Microsoft AD.
• Expertise in Oracle Enterprise Manager for installation, configuration, and patching.
• Experience with database migrations to the cloud.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (shell scripting, Jenkins, Bitbucket, Terraform).
• Solid understanding of RMAN backup and restore procedures.
• Experience with Oracle patching, upgrades, and other life-cycle activities.
• Experience with AWS cloud services (EC2, RDS, Aurora).
• Hands-on experience in all aspects of database administration.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Experience with ticketing tools (ServiceNow, Zenoss, Cloud monitoring tools, AppDynamics).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent required.

Please note that this position requires flexibility in scheduling, including on-call rotation.

 This is a hybrid role. This role is to be filled outside the states of California and Colorado.
